We believe that is is the duty of each person to support their community! Take comfort in knowing that when you hire Mr. Handyman you are in turn supporting your community. Mr. Van Grootheest used to be a BV Kinsmen Club member and took pride in helping to facilitate, organize and MC the Telkwa BBQ and Demolition Derby for many consecutive years. We love donating time and resources to help those causes which in turn helps people on the individual level. Every person matters and we truly believe anyone can make a difference!
SALVATION ARMY FOOD BANK
The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become one of the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people today and everyday in 400 communities across Canada and more than 125 countries around the world.
The Salvation Army offers practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life, provides shelter for homeless people and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction.
The Salvation Army first started serving the people of Bulkley Valley in 1985 when we first opened Camp Mountainview, located just outside of the town of Houston.
In the early 1990’s, The Salvation Army opened their community Service office and Thrift Store in Houston, BC to help better serve the communities of Bulkley Valley.
Shortly after opening in Houston, we opened a location in Smithers, BC to further expand the services we offer to the people of the Valley.
SMITHERS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS HAMPER
For more than 30 years, Christmas Hampers have brightened the season for residents of Smtihers, Telkwa and Witset. Each year, SCSA Christmas Hampers provides food for a Christmas dinner as well as some canned and fresh foods to about 1000 people. We also give toys and books to all children 16 years of age and younger. Christmas Hampers depends on support from our community to volunteer, sponsor families and donate food, toys and money.
